Proposal for an executive apartment in Singapore for a family of 4. 

The proposal reinterprets the 3 X 3 grid that was apparent in the original plan by removing walls and re-orienting the house around a new room-scaled furniture. 

Existing non-structural walls in the living area were removed, reorienting it around a room-sized furniture that houses a storeroom, shelving and a built in study area. 

Instead a series of void spaces in the orignal plan,usable corridors, spaces and rooms are formed around and within the new room. Pocket doors in the furniture allow further configurability.

The brief was to revamp an existing apartment for a retired couple in Singapore. 

The unique layout comprises of two east-west facing balconies, one which provides access to the apartment. A timber-clad lowered ceiling was introduced to form an internal threshold between the living and dining, spatially differentiating the various areas of the house. 

An enclosed corridor was formed using a new sliding glass door to the kitchen, providing a gallery-like space for the owners’ collection of art, some specially commisioned for the apartment. 

Working within the confines of the many structural walls and columns, walls were removed in the kitchen and the house reoriented around bespoke joinery for spatial efficiency.

We conducted a pre-development feasibility and massing study to assess the economic viability of redeveloping an existing 3-storey double terrace in Finsbury Park, London. 

Relevant studies including daylighting, change-of-use  and cost / benefit analysis were conducted to provide a series of proposals for consideration. In consultation with the local authorities and other consultants, the report concluded with a proposal for a roof and rear extension with change-of use, and informed any future submission for pre-application advice from the Local Authority.
